Aneta's Testimony (Part I)

Aneta Hume exudes great love for the Lord, demonstrating the simplicity of devotion to Christ. Many will attest that she exhibits a jovial spirit that is full of life and laughter. Also a tenacious spirit that is committed to her Lord Jesus Christ is clearly evident in all she attains to do. Aneta encountered the Risen Christ as a young adult through an American missionary who responded to God’s call to reach Poland. Growing up in Poland during the oppression of the Communist rule through the Soviet bloc, she endured a childhood vastly different than the typical American experience. Aneta was raised Roman Catholic—hence, she was extremely religious and devout, praying everyday to Mary.

She recalls vividly a story of how two young Christian men witnessed to her one day in town. Immediately she knew that they weren't Catholics since they kept talking about this Jesus—nobody in the Catholic church talked about Jesus! This was indeed an anomaly that warranted skepticism. With an air of self-assurance, she asked, “What about Mary?” Their response wasn't satisfactory to her religious mindset. As she walked away, Aneta was convinced in her heart that she was right and they were wrong.

Little did she know that a life-changing encounter was on the horizon!

Shortly thereafter Aneta noticed that her older brother was gone every Friday evening, which was rather unusual behavior in her opinion. Typically her brother would be home working on electronics and computers. Upon further investigation she learned that he was attending a bible study hosted by an American missionary. Aneta elected to go to the bible study with him since she reasoned that she was the religious one in the family and should attend bible study. Immediately she was captivated by the open worship of the young people in this meeting, which was vastly different than her religious upbringing. These people were freely expressing their love and devotion to the Lord. Through the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the American missionary, Aneta encountered a Jesus that was radically different than the one portrayed in the Catholic Church she attended her whole life. This was the Jesus as revealed in the Holy Scriptures. Something in her heart was awakened!

Never again would she be the same!

Now she knew the Jesus that those two young men told her about. She could say with confidence by the Spirit of God: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16). A fervent love for this Jesus that she never knew was birthed in her heart. And to this day she remains madly in love with this God-man, Christ Jesus!

In the months following her conversion she was thrusted immediately in leading a bible study for the other youth in her church. As she grew in her relationship with Christ an insatiable hunger percolated within to know Christ more intimately and to be equipped for ministry.

Thus she sought out resources to fan the flame within. Whenever she went to the missionary’s office, she would see countless number of books and audio teachings on the Christina faith waiting to be devoured. However there was one problem. These resources were all in English and Aneta only could speak and read Polish and Russian. Undeterred Aneta enlisted to serve six months in Britain at the Wycliffe Bible Translation Center where she would have the opportunity to learn to speak English among the native tongues!

Upon arrival at the centre, she was assigned to work in the gardens among other internationals desiring to also learn to speak English! Initially her only contact with an English speaking person was the person in charge of the garden—therefore she had to have a Hungarian translate the instructions to her in Russian because she couldn’t understand English. However over time she was able to grasp enough English to read and listen to Joyce Meyers and John Bevere upon arriving back in Poland. The more she learned through these resources, the more the call of God within seemed to grip her heart.

During this season she felt a strong desire within to pursue a biblical education. She applied for bible schools in Europe and Australia, but the Lord closed those doors. Then a Polish pastor in a nearby town recommended to Aneta that she apply to the bible school that he had attended years before: Christ For the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas. She immediately obliged and sent off her application along with a request for a scholarship that was available for international students. As she was awaiting a response, she had received assurance from the Lord as she sought His face in prayer—she knew that she had been accepted. Amidst the clamor of family and friends trying to persuade her to keep an open mind she held steadfast to the promise that the Lord gave her that she would indeed be going to the United States to attend bible school. Within a short while, a phone call came to the house from the admissions office at CFNI: Aneta had been accepted on a full scholarship!

Aneta was overjoyed! Deep within her heart was the desire to be equipped to serve in the ministry by learning to love Jesus with her whole heart. She arrived at CFNI in June of 1999 and immersed herself in her studies, work, friendships, and in the pursuit of God. This season of her life was like heaven on earth!

She was selected by Freda “Momma” Lindsay to go with her on a banquet tour to help raise money for the bible school. It was on this trip that Aneta had the opportunity to get to know the co-founder of CFNI who was approximately 86 years old at that time. To this day Aneta treasures the memories she had of this trip as she testified of God’s favor and goodness throughout the United States.

Aneta was living out the deepest desires within her heart. She was being used tremendously by the Lord to share His love and goodness with other people; ample opportunities to meet other believers who were on fire for the Lord abounded at CFNI; and most of all, she simply loved the opportunity to worship Jesus Christ daily in chapel services.

As the first year was coming to an end, little did she know that just around the corner her life was about to change dramatically....
